My PCP worked some sort of dark magic and got me in with a foot specialist, today. He called me at 10:30 AM, very irritated that I couldn’t get in anywhere before 9/8, so he said he’d make some calls. About 30-45 minutes later, I got a call from the orthopedic surgeon’s office offering me to come in. Considering the amount of pain I’ve been in, I jumped at the opportunity.
I discovered yesterday (though I already had a very good feeling) that I have a staph infection in the area of my ankle. Let me tell you, that crap hurts. No matter which way I moved or how gently I put pressure on it, pain shot up and down my leg and foot.
I knew what had to happen. They were going to have to cut me open and drain the abscess out. I’ve had that done many times before and it’s generally a nightmare.
Luckily, the orthopedic team at Johns Hopkins is awesome. Like seriously. The doctor is cool. Her PA is a sweetheart, and the staff in general are amazing. They took care of me within a couple of hours, now I’m on the road to recovery.
Of course, they gave me Das Space Boot to keep my foot happy. Look at this thing. Yeesh. Btw, that critter in the background is my Chi-Chi. She’s a sandwich thief…a story for another day.
